How big is the choir ?

Our current membership is about 30, but we are always looking for new members in all parts, particularly basses.

How much does it cost?

Subscriptions are £15 per month for the whole year, with lower concessionary rates available if needed. Most members pay by standing order. Funds are needed primarily to pay our conductors and accompanist, for borrowing music scores and for the cost of hiring rehearsal and concert venues. Donations to charity are an important part of what we do, but these come from a retiring collection at each of our concerts.

Do I have to pay for music ?

Music scores are provided from the choir's own stock or by borrowing from a music library. You are not required to pay for the music, although some choir members like to purchase their own copy, particularly if we are likely to sing it again

Do I need to be able to read music ?

There are no auditions, but an ability to follow music notation and a sense of pitch are important. We learn the music together at rehearsals, which is what rehearsals are for. There are also many web sites offering audio files emphasising your own part for you to download or stream for practising at home.

Do I need to learn my part off by heart ?

We almost always sing from the music score. We have matching folders into which we place our music to give a uniform look.

Where and when do you rehearse ?

We rehearse on Tuesdays during term time, 7.30 to 9.30 pm at Richard Taunton's sixth form college, Hill Lane, Southampton.

Do try us out at a few rehearsals before deciding to commit
