About us

The Conchord Singers were founded in 1986 by members of Southampton CND who enjoyed singing, and began giving occasional concerts, led jointly by Rita March and Rita Leighton. The idea evolved to have fun and to raise money for various good causes.

Our origial name was Concord Singers (without the 'h'), devised by Rita March to includ the letters CND. Eventually the choir was permanently costituted under Donald Hughes, who established links with the international organisation 'Sing for Pleasure'. At this time we revised our name to Conchord Singers.

Over the years we expanded our repertoire to include more ambitious works as our ablities grew.

We rehearse at the Friends' Meeting House, Ordnance Road, Southampton on Fridays from 7,30 to 9.30 pm. with a break for refreshments. We also break for the Christmas, Easter and summer holidays.

Subscriptions are £80 per half yearly term, with lower concessionary rates. We are always looking for new members in all parts. There is no audition, but an ability to follow music notation and a sense of pitch are important. Do try us out at a few rehearsals before deciding to commit. Contact us on
